Sessions/Tracks

Track 1: Pediatric Allergy

Millions of children worldwide suffer from allergic diseases such as asthma, atopic dermatitis, allergic rhinitis, or food allergy. The diagnosis and treatment of these children require special attention to the complexities not only of childhood but also of developmental and disease processes. Allergy refers to certain diseases in which immune responses to environmental pharma particles cause tissue inflammation and organ dysfunction. Hypersensitivity and sensitivity are synonyms for allergy.

I that acts as a defense mechanism in all living beings, that mainly concerns with the metabolism of the defense system that fights with the external sources to prevent invading antigens the physiological functioning of the complete body immune system both in healthy and diseased state. It includes all the immunological disorders, diagnosis, treatment and detail aspects about the condition of disease. It has its branches in fields like medicine, oncology, organ transplantation, virology, bacteriology, psychiatry, dermatology and many more. Many substances and components of the immune system are specifically cellular in nature and not associated with any specific organ.

Track 3: Pediatric Infectious Diseases

Bacterial, viral, parasitic or fungal infections are all types of infectious diseases that can make your child sick and are reason for concern. Childhood infections are one of the most common reasons children see a healthcare provider. Majority of Pediatric Infectious Diseases are not serious and children recovery quickly, sometimes children do need to see a specialist for recurrent, prolonged or severe infections.

Track 4: Pediatric Immunodeficiency Disorders

Pediatric immunodeficiency disorders are a group of genetic defects characterized by abnormalities of one or more components of the immune system.

These disorders are genetically determined during infancy and childhood. The diagnosis done by the different types of tests such as differential WBC count, absolute lymphocyte count, quantitative immunoglobulin (Ig) measurements, and antibody count. Treatment usually consists of prophylactic antibiotics to manage and prevent infections.

Severe Combined Immune Deficiency (SCID) is a type of disorder found in infants that leads to life-threatening infections unless the immune system can be restored through a bone marrow transplant, enzyme replacement or gene therapy.

Track 5: Pediatric Hospital Medicine

Pediatric Hospital Medicine (PHM) is a group of general pediatricians with an interest in the care of hospitalized children. Hospital focus is on the safety of children, and pediatric advocate for services and programs that support the best possible outcomes for children.

Pediatric hospitalists often serve as leaders in children care. Hospitalists interface with pediatric medical subspecialists and pediatric surgical specialists, pediatric care physicians, nurses, and others in the hospital environment to help provide infants with a consistent message of quality and safety, it enables effective medical decision-making.

Track 6: Challenges in Pediatric drug development

Pediatric drug development has been challenging for more than 5 decades. Understanding of pharmacokinetics and pharmacodynamics has enhanced by attention to regulatory affairs and drug safety. Pediatric drug development is not just drug development for small adults. Indeed, the pediatric population presents a number of challenges, from physiological differences to unique study design elements that must be carefully considered

Pediatric patients can be divided into several age groups, including pre-term newborns, full-term newborns, infants and toddlers, children, and adolescents. It is known that pharmacokinetic (PK) parameters can differ greatly among these subpopulations due to the natural development and maturation of hepatic and renal systems.

The variability in pharmacodynamics (PD) parameters raises more questions with inadequate understanding of the disease pathology.

Track 7: HIV in Children

Most of the children who are having HIV got it from their mother womb when she was pregnant, during the birth process, or from breastfeeding. Women who are tested, and then stick with treatment if they're positive, significantly bring down the possibility of passing the infection to their infants. This is the best way to prevent HIV in children.

The number of kids who get infected with HIV each year is going down. In 2017, 2.6 million children in the world living with the Anti-retrovirus, but only about 1/3rd of them were getting treatment.

Track 8: Asthma in children

Not all children have the same asthma symptoms, and these symptoms can vary from episode to episode in the same child.

Asthma is ongoing (chronic) inflammation of airways in the lungs. This inflammation makes the airways vulnerable to episodes of difficult breathing (asthma attacks). Common triggers include allergies, colds and exercise.

It is managed by controlling inflammation with drugs, avoiding triggers when possible and using medications to treat asthma attacks.

While the majority of asthmatic children have an intermittent symptom phenotype, the minority have persistent symptoms, reflecting the underlying chronic inflammation. In older children, as in adults, this may lead to permanent structural alterations of the airway wall (airway remodeling) and potentially a more severe asthma phenotype.

Track 9: Nutritional Disorders in Children

Nutritional disorders in children include both deficiency and excess states. Protein energy malnutrition remains one of the leading causes of death in children in underdeveloped countries. Obesity has emerged as one of the most common nutritional disorders in children worldwide. Children who have a body mass index (BMI) in the 85th to 94th sex- and age-specific percentile are considered overweight. Those with a BMI at or above the 95th percentile are considered obese.

Nutritional deficiencies can be very significant to the overall health of infants and children because growth and development can be change by shortages in essential vitamins or nutrients. The two most common insufficient minerals are iron and vitamins.

Track 10: Food Allergy in Children

A food allergy is an abnormal response of the body to a certain food. A child who sneezes or coughs a lot, who frequently develops a rash or hives, or who gets a stomachache, cramps or nausea after eating certain foods may have allergies.

It is important to know that this is different than a food intolerance, which does not affect the immune system, although some of the same symptoms may be present. All parents of a child with a food allergy should be aware of the possibility of anaphylaxis. Most children with food allergies are prescribed epinephrine (adrenaline), administered with an auto-injector as soon as symptoms develop. Early identification of childhood allergies will improve your child’s quality of life.

Track 12: Pediatric drug delivery and dosage forms

For many years, children have been described as “therapeutic orphans” to indicate that medicinal research, regulation, and formulation development has mainly focused on diseases in adults. The development of age-appropriate medicine for the heterogeneous pediatric population is a particular challenge.

Track 13: Pediatric Immunotherapy

Over the last several years, pediatric immunotherapy has emerged as a promising alternative to traditional forms of treatment.

Clinical trials underway to better treat leukemia in children and young adults by boosting the immune system with T-cell immunotherapy. T cells, which are white blood cells in the immune system that fight infection, are collected from the child's blood. Then, using laboratory techniques, the T cells are reprogrammed to recognize cancer cells and grown into millions of reprogrammed T cells, known as CAR (Chimeric Antigen Receptor) T cells. The CAR T cells are returned to the child's body, where they seek out and destroy cancer cells without harming normal, healthy cells.
