Track 4: Pediatric Immunodeficiency Disorders

Pediatric immunodeficiency disorders are a group of genetic defects characterized by abnormalities of one or more components of the immune system.

These disorders are genetically determined during infancy and childhood. The diagnosis done by the different types of tests such as differential WBC count, absolute lymphocyte count, quantitative immunoglobulin (Ig) measurements, and antibody count. Treatment usually consists of prophylactic antibiotics to manage and prevent infections.

Severe Combined Immune Deficiency (SCID) is a type of disorder found in infants that leads to life-threatening infections unless the immune system can be restored through a bone marrow transplant, enzyme replacement or gene therapy.

Indeed, the pediatric population presents a number of challenges, from physiological differences to unique study design elements that must be carefully considered

Pediatric patients can be divided into several age groups, including pre-term newborns, full-term newborns, infants and toddlers, children, and adolescents. It is known that pharmacokinetic (PK) parameters can differ greatly among these subpopulations due to the natural development and maturation of hepatic and renal systems.

The variability in pharmacodynamics (PD) parameters raises more questions with inadequate understanding of the disease pathology.

Track 7: HIV in Children

Most of the children who are having HIV got it from their mother womb when she was pregnant, during the birth process, or from breastfeeding. Women who are tested, and then stick with treatment if they're positive, significantly bring down the possibility of passing the infection to their infants. This is the best way to prevent HIV in children.

The number of kids who get infected with HIV each year is going down. In 2017, 2.6 million children in the world living with the Anti-retrovirus, but only about 1/3rd of them were getting treatment.

Track 8: Asthma in children

Not all children have the same asthma symptoms, and these symptoms can vary from episode to episode in the same child.

Asthma is ongoing (chronic) inflammation of airways in the lungs. This inflammation makes the airways vulnerable to episodes of difficult breathing (asthma attacks). Common triggers include allergies, colds and exercise.

It is managed by controlling inflammation with drugs, avoiding triggers when possible and using medications to treat asthma attacks.

While the majority of asthmatic children have an intermittent symptom phenotype, the minority have persistent symptoms, reflecting the underlying chronic inflammation. In older children, as in adults, this may lead to permanent structural alterations of the airway wall (airway remodeling) and potentially a more severe asthma phenotype.

Track 9: Nutritional Disorders in Children

Nutritional disorders in children include both deficiency and excess states. Protein energy malnutrition remains one of the leading causes of death in children in underdeveloped countries. Obesity has emerged as one of the most common nutritional disorders in children worldwide. Children who have a body mass index (BMI) in the 85th to 94th sex- and age-specific percentile are considered overweight. Those with a BMI at or above the 95th percentile are considered obese.

Nutritional deficiencies can be very significant to the overall health of infants and children because growth and development can be change by shortages in essential vitamins or nutrients. The two most common insufficient minerals are iron and vitamins.

Track 10: Food Allergy in Children

A food allergy is an abnormal response of the body to a certain food. A child who sneezes or coughs a lot, who frequently develops a rash or hives, or who gets a stomachache, cramps or nausea after eating certain foods may have allergies.

 It is important to know that this is different than a food intolerance, which does not affect the immune system, although some of the same symptoms may be present. All parents of a child with a food allergy should be aware of the possibility of anaphylaxis. Most children with food allergies are prescribed epinephrine (adrenaline), administered with an auto-injector as soon as symptoms develop. Early identification of childhood allergies will improve your child’s quality of life.

Track 11: Clinical Research in Pediatric Allergy

The Hydrocephalus Clinical Research Network (HCRN) has been established by philanthropic funding to conduct multi-institutional research (clinical trials and observational studies) on pediatric hydrocephalus. In addition to philanthropic funding, the HCRN has also received an NIH NINDS Challenge Grant to support the network infrastructure

Track 13: Pediatric Immunotherapy

Over the last several years, pediatric immunotherapy has emerged as a promising alternative to traditional forms of treatment.

Clinical trials underway to better treat leukemia in children and young adults by boosting the immune system with T-cell immunotherapy. T cells, which are white blood cells in the immune system that fight infection, are collected from the child's blood. Then, using laboratory techniques, the T cells are reprogrammed to recognize cancer cells and grown into millions of reprogrammed T cells, known as CAR (Chimeric Antigen Receptor) T cells. The CAR T cells are returned to the child's body, where they seek out and destroy cancer cells without harming normal, healthy cells.

Global burden of pediatric mortality is increasing drastically every year. WHO estimates that 8.8 million deaths occur annually among infants and children < 5 years of age. 3.8 million in the first 30 days of life 36% of neonatal deaths due to infectious diseases. Letter of Invitation

It's the delegate's responsibility to investigate the visa requirements for USA and to apply for a visa, if necessary. Individuals requiring an official Letter of Invitation from the conference organizers can request one by email by writing to us at worldpediatric@annualamericacongress.org

 

To receive a Letter of Invitation, delegates, accompanying persons/children, student/post-doc/youth delegates and exhibitors must first register for the conference.

The registration fee minus a handling fee of USD 100 will be refunded after the conference if the visa was applied for in time and proof is shown that a visa could not be granted even though all requested documents were submitted. Refund requests must be made in writing and sent to the Pediatric Immunology 2019 via email. 


All expenses incurred in relation to the conference are the sole responsibility of the delegate. The Letter of Invitation does not guarantee an entry visa to USA. However, the conference organizers will not directly contact embassies and consulates on behalf of delegates. 

The deadline for requesting a Letter of Invitation is one month before travelling to USA.
